WALTER NEVILLE COURT, Sergeant 1/6th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, third son of the late W H Court, Solicitor, Wolverhampton, was born on March 10th 1895.  After being at the school from 1904 to 1908 he went to Denstone College and there became a member of the O.T.C in which he served for three years.  He was among the first to offer his services to his country and soon proved himself a soldier of fine qualities.  More than once he refused the offer of recommendation for a commission, preferring to remain among the men, who were as much devoted to him as he to them.  His officer says, “he always showed a very keen interest in his work and rapidly earned promotion.  His work was of great value.  He was always ready for any duty, however dangerous or difficult, and set a splendid example by his courage and devotion.  Not only by his considerable military attainments, but by his personal qualities, he endeared himself to all ranks.”  He was killed while leading a bombing party ten yards from the German trench on  April 2nd 1916.
