ROBERT HERBERT HOOLE, Second Lieutenant, 8th Battalion, Royal West Surrey Regiment (The Queen’s), was killed in action at Guillemont on August 21st 1916 aged 24.  He was the eldest son of Mrs Hoole of Reigate, was at the school from January 1907 to July 1908, and made his mark both in football and cricket.  He entered the Inland Revenue service and passed the Membership Examination of the Surveyors’ Institution at the age of 21.  He was a good cricketer and was Secretary of the well-known Reigate Priory Cricket Club for some time.  His qualities as a soldier have been testified to by officers and men, one characterising him as “a very fine officer.”
