JOHN ALBERT LOVATT (1904-1905 : 28), Private in the 8th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, was the eldest son of the late Mr J A Lovatt of Wolverhampton.  He received his early education at Mr Cullwick’s school and remained too short a time with us to make much mark, though he was a keen supporter of the games.  Joining the colours in February 1916, he was soon sent to France and there, after much hard service, he was killed on April 24 1917, whilst making an attempt to penetrate into a German trench.  Had he lived he was to have been recommended for a commission.
