ROBERT THOM (1899-1906 : 26), Lance Corporal in the 19th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, was a son of Mr James Thom of Wolverhampton.  After leaving school he went to Canada and, being possessed of a cheery disposition and sturdy manliness, had already laid the foundations of a successful career.  The outbreak of the war made an instant appeal to him and he soon proved himself a brave and efficient soldier.  He took part in many engagements and was severely wounded in throat, wrist and side on May 3rd last.  Brought to England, he died in hospital on May 28th, and was buried in his mother’s grave at Penn Fields.
