ERNEST ARTHUR WEST, Private in the Royal Army Service Corps., was the second son of Mr Jesse West of Coalway Road, Wolverhampton, Headmaster of the Wolverhampton Higher Grade School.  He came to the school in September 1908, and remained till July 1912.  Then, having chosen dentistry as his profession, he studied under Mr Vincent Knight and entered later the Dental Hospital at Birmingham.  With but a year to wait for his final examination, he joined the A.S.C in November 1915.  The following February he was sent out to join the British Force in East Africa and served in trying operations against the Germans for nearly three years.  He thus saw the war end in victory, but he had unfortunately contracted blackwater fever, and he died at Mombassa in British East Africa on December 18th 1918, aged 23.
