It provides an engaging start to the course, and the outcome is a thoroughly researched, written project that can be used as a baseline assessment.<\/p>\n<p>Because the markscheme stays the same each time, progression is easily measured.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;History Mysteries&#8221; lessons are designed as stand-alone projects which each last 3-4 hours.<br \/>\nThrough engaging historical topics, they teach skills of problem formulation, deductive reasoning, independent research, groupwork and structured writing.<br \/>\nThere is a standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activehistory.co.uk\/main_area\/games\/mysteries\/1_Teacher_Lesson_Plan.doc\" target=\"_blank\">teacher lesson plan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activehistory.co.uk\/main_area\/games\/mysteries\/2_Student_Record_Sheet.doc\">student record sheet \/ markscheme<\/a> for each activity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These teacher notes are designed to accompany the History Mystery on the Franklin Expedition (which opens up my studies with Year 9 Historians).
