{"id":3999,"date":"2017-05-05T13:33:23","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T10:33:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.activehistory.co.uk\/updates\/?p=3999"},"modified":"2017-05-13T13:34:47","modified_gmt":"2017-05-13T10:34:47","slug":"use-eyesay-to-give-visual-feedback-on-student-essays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.activehistory.co.uk\/updates\/uncategorized\/use-eyesay-to-give-visual-feedback-on-student-essays\/","title":{"rendered":"Use \u201cEyeSay!\u201d to give visual feedback on student essays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.classtools.net\/eyesay\/\">EyeSay!<\/a>\u201d is a new tool I have coded at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.classtools.net\/\">www.classtools.net<\/a> to help students and teachers get a useful visualisation of essay style and structure.<\/p>\n<p>Students simply copy and paste their essay from a word processor, and then the web application colour-codes its central stylistic features.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For students<\/strong>, it helps them develop their writing \u2013 They can use it to spot whether they are using a range of sentence lengths, quotes, dates and terminology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For teachers<\/strong>, it is a useful marking tool \u2013 \u00a0you can use it to quickly identify whether the essay uses key evidence, linking words and statistics.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5083\" src=\"http:\/\/www.classtools.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/-165\" alt=\"\" width=\"803\" height=\"645\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Taking it further<\/h2>\n<p>It is also possible to view the essay\u2019s opening topic sentences in isolation. If these thesis statements are written well, then taken together they should provide a coherent overview of the entire\u00a0argument.
